The police has teargased and dispersed the members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who gathered for North-West zone campaigns rally scheduled to hold in Gumel town.
Reports from the state indicated that the policemen fires canisters of tear-gas at the crowd that have started assembling for the PDP rally dispersed thousands of the party supporters.
The angry crowd started chanting anti-APC and anti-Buhari songs declaring that, “change is imminent”, “we must change them”.
The state PDP deputy chairman, Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim told journalists that they don’t know what is happening only to found the venue of the rally barricaded by the police.
“We have officially sought for permission to hold our north-west zonal rally today in Gumel only for us to see hundreds of policemen stopping us from our constitutional rights”, he declared.
He stated that, “it is the same constitution that gave the police commissioner his powers that also gave us our right for this process and nothing can stop us “, he stated.
The state PDP deputy chairman said the party will definitely sue the commissioner of police if he succeeds in disrupting the rally.
When contacted the Jigawa state police commissioner, Mr. Bala Zama Senchi said dismiss the allegations leveled against the him and the command that the action was influenced by the government and ruling party.
The Police boss said the action was based on security consideration and for the peace and security for the general public.
According to him ” We didn’t stopped them, we asked them to change the venue of the rally as it is a market place or change the day because its corresponds with the Market day.
